Five tips for decorating a new house.
Hello ladies!
Lately I’ve been going around Calgary doing free design consults. It has been so exciting getting to know our clients and being inside their beautiful homes. If you haven’t booked your free design consult please call the store and book it at 403-460-8114.
Now here’s my five tips for decorating a new house.
1. DECIDE WHAT ROOMS ARE TOP PRIORITY TO DESIGN.
We all have a budget that we have to work with so my first tip is to decide what rooms are the most important for you to decorate and buy new furniture for. I personally like to have nice furniture in the master bedroom since this is the place you go to bed and wake up in the morning. I feel every person should be able to spoil themselves a little bit in the bedroom and make it feel peaceful and beautiful. Another room that I like to focus on is the kitchen.
Some of the most happy memories are formed around the kitchen table, eating good food and visiting with friends and family. If your kitchen table is out in the open I would suggest spending a little more money on getting a table that you feel proud of and that will suit the amount of people you normally have coming over. The last room I like to splurge on is the main living room. This is where you will spend the majority of your time with your friends and family.
The kids bedrooms and a bonus room/TV room you can easily get less expensive furniture although it is not the same quality of the majority of what we sell it’s fine for those rooms that don't get a ton of use.
Over 20% of our store has an Ashley furniture clearance centre with perfectly good furniture that does not cost a lot of money.
2. START A PINTEREST BOARD!
Decide what kind of feeling you want your home to have. Decide if you want the TV to be in the main living room. Then decide on the style of furniture that you like. I have been into many homes and seen all different styles and I feel that you can really express yourself these days in the type of furniture that you pick. I am really loving a lot of the mid-century modern pieces as well as I still love traditional and farmhouse pieces.
Once you are able to identify the style of furniture that you like it is a lot easier to come into the store and pick out your new sofa, dining room table, and bedroom suite. We have over 70,000 ft.² of beautiful furniture for you to choose from. We are very happy with all the Canadian custom furniture we now carry. It makes us proud to be Canadian.
3. MEASURE MEASURE MEASURE.
Once you have a good idea of what your style is and your budget then, it’s time to start space planning. Get out the green painters tape and start masking out future furniture spots on the floor. A nicely balanced room looks so great so decide on your furniture plan.
Arrange a time to meet with one of our designers in the store for a free design consult. You can call 403-460-8114. Make sure you bring in measurements of the rooms you need designed and pics to show your designer. If you would prefer for one of our designers to come to your home we can arrange that as well as a complementary service.
It is very helpful if you know what your budget is before you have one of us come in. We are very good at working with your budget and because we carry a lot of different suppliers and we have different quality of furniture we are able to match what you need. We do not specialize in one certain style, we carry affordable furniture for all different types of people.
4. TRUST IN YOUR OWN TASTE.
As you come into our huge show room it tends to get overwhelming. Our designers will take you around the store and point out some pieces that will match your style. But ultimately it is up to you. You need to trust your own instincts. We want you to create the show home of your dreams.
Thank you for taking time to read this little short blog. We love coming into your homes and are excited to visit many more homes in Calgary to give you some free advice and some ideas. You guys are fantastic clients and we are excited to help turn your home into your dream home. Thank you so much!
